It’s no secret that Vitamin K nutrition is important to your health as an individual.  Vitamin K is used for a group of fat soluble vitamins that is mostly needed for blood coagulation. It also plays a role in the metabolism of bone and other tissues.

Doctors recommend a daily dietary intake of vitamin K of 120 micrograms for adult men and 90 micrograms for women. Children and Infants are recommended to have a dietary intake of 10–20 micrograms daily while adolescents are recommended 15–100 micrograms/day.

Vitamin K is most abundant in dark green vegetables such as broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, kale, spinach and soybeans and is also available in Cow milk. Oils such as vegetable oils and soybeans contain trace amounts of Vitamin K.

Here are some of the foods that are rich in Vitamin K.

Parsley, Amaranth leaves, Kale, Dandelion greens, Collards, Cress, Turnip greens, Mustard greens, Lambs quarters, and Beet Spinach are some of the many foods that have huge amounts of Vitamin K in them.

In addition to external sources, Vitamin K is endemically produced in the large intestine by bacteria. Bacteria play a huge role in synthesizing Vitamin K for the body to absorb.  It is widely believed that bacteria produce most of the Vitamin K absorbed

Vitamin K is very important in the functions of the body, but it also has other benefits which can greatly aid in the treatment of some diseases.

For most people, Vitamin K nutrition is an unknown part of their diet.  Most often have difficulty in getting their daily recommended dose of this Vitamin. The majority of Vitamin K in our diet is sourced – believe it or not – in the bacteria of the gut.  Even when there is an abundance of Vitamin K in vegetables and fruits, it is often difficult to get the daily recommended amount that you need for your diet.

Food supplements have been developed to provide a more reliable alternative for Vitamin K intake.  Studies show that people who consume Vitamin K in their diet have improved clotting abilities and are less likely to develop diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Liver cancer.  Taking food supplements are a good way of getting these benefits.

When choosing your Vitamin K supplements, be sure to look for a GMP certification.  This seal ensures that the supplement you are getting has complied with the most stringent manufacturing standards in the market.  This basically means that the product is safe to consume and is of top quality.
